BILLING & CODING SPECIALIST

A Billing & Coding Specialist's primary responsibility is to review patient records for timeliness, completeness, and accuracy, organize and update information in clinical databases, use classification systems to assign clinical codes for insurance reimbursement and data analysis, and electronically record data for collection, storage, analysis, retrieval and reporting. 

They are also responsible for preventing fraud/abuse by auditing billing and maintaining confidentiality of patient records.

The demand for professionals who understand how to code health care services and procedures for third-party insurance reimbursement is growing substantially. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), the forecasted growth demand for Billing & Coding Specialists between now and 2033 is 9%.

CPC (AAPC) Online Lecture: Thursday 4p-6pm

*All simulation activities must be completed prior to attending the virtual class session. Assignments must be completed on a weekly basis for student to stay on track with course objectives. Each week new reading material and learning activities will be posted and students are expected to log in regularly, review the content, and submit all required work by the designated deadline.
