The duties of a Clinical Medical Assistant include preparing patients for exams, taking vital signs, assisting with physical exams and minor procedures, administering injections and medications, collecting and processing specimens, wound care, and explaining treatment procedures to patients. Medical Assistants are also responsible for maintaining up-to-date patient records, sterilizing medical instruments, preparing and restocking examination rooms, maintaining inventory of medical supplies.
Other job duties could include scheduling patient appointments and coordinating follow-up visits, ensuring the examination rooms are clean, safe, and well-stocked, greeting patients and answering phones, and relaying information between patients and healthcare providers.
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), the forecasted growth demand for Medical Assistants between now and 2031 is 15%, which averages approximately 119,800 job openings each year over the decade. The large baby-boom population continues to enter older age groups, which typically have more healthcare concerns than younger age groups and will continue to increase demand for medical services.
Annual salaries range widely from $35K-$44K. Hourly pay typically ranges from $18 to $25, depending on experience. Plus, the role often comes with full-time benefits like health insurance, paid time off, and retirement plans.
